Independent Game Reviews

Honest, comprehensive analysis across gameplay mechanics, accessibility implementation, value proposition, and technical performance.

Our Review Approach

We don't reduce complex games to simplistic numerical scores. Instead, we provide detailed analysis across multiple dimensions, allowing you to weight criteria according to your personal priorities.

Gameplay Depth

Mechanical complexity, skill ceiling, strategic variety, and long-term engagement potential beyond initial novelty.

Accessibility

Visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive accessibility features. Customisation options, difficulty settings, and inclusive design implementation.

Value Proposition

Content volume, replayability, price-to-hours ratio, post-launch support, and monetisation ethics.

Technical Performance

Frame rate stability, loading times, visual fidelity, audio quality, and platform-specific optimisation.

Narrative & World

Story coherence, character development, world-building, thematic depth, and player agency in narrative progression.

Australian Context

Regional pricing fairness, server performance, classification considerations, and local multiplayer viability.

Review Standards

Purchase Policy

We purchase all reviewed games at retail price using our own funds. We accept no promotional consideration, early access contingent on coverage, or review copies that might introduce bias. This ensures our reviews reflect the experience paying customers receive, not a curated preview experience.

Completion Requirements

Reviewers must complete main story content or invest minimum 15 hours (whichever is greater) before publishing. Multiplayer-focused titles require assessment across multiple play sessions spanning at least one week to evaluate server stability, matchmaking quality, and community behaviour.

Platform Testing

Multi-platform releases are tested on at least two platforms to identify performance discrepancies, control differences, and platform-specific issues. Reviews specify testing platforms and note significant variations.

Update Tracking

Major post-launch updates that substantially alter gameplay, performance, or content trigger review updates. Each review displays version tested and last update date. Significant changes warrant revised analysis rather than leaving outdated assessments published.

Disclosure Requirements

Any relationship with developers, publishers, or platform holders is disclosed prominently at review beginning. Affiliate links are clearly marked. Editorial independence is maintained regardless of commercial relationships.

Accessibility Evaluation

Every review includes dedicated accessibility analysis consulting established frameworks and input from disabled gamers. We document specific features, note gaps, and evaluate implementation quality beyond checkbox feature lists.

Why We Don't Use Aggregate Scores

Reducing complex games to single numerical scores creates false precision and obscures important nuance. A game might excel at accessibility and narrative while struggling with technical performance. An aggregate score hides these trade-offs, leaving readers uncertain whether the game suits their specific priorities.

Our dimensional analysis approach provides transparency. You can see exactly how games perform across criteria that matter to you, making informed decisions based on your personal weighting rather than our imposed hierarchy.

This approach also discourages score-chasing behaviour where developers optimise for reviewer priorities rather than player experience, and reduces pressure for reviewers to artificially inflate scores to avoid backlash.
